WITH THE GOOD WEATHER…COMES GOOD CINEMA!
2nd EDITION OF THE IBIZA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
FROM 23rd TO 31st MAY
PLACE: CLUB DIARIO DE IBIZA
The start of the season arrives this year full of all sorts of festivals, displays and events and there are so many programmed activities that more than one of us are in some moral dilemma… One has to choose, that’s all there is to it, as we don’t have the gift of omnipresence…
For those movie lovers amongst us, two dates jump out of the calendar at us as though written in flame, burning in our heads, announcing the ever closer event…
This next 23rd May will see the start of the 2nd Edition of the Ibiza International Film Festival, presented this week in Madrid, in the habitual company of its illustrious patrons. Names like Mira Sorvino, Michael Nyman, Armand Assate, Gabriel Byrne, Michael Radford or Ray Loriga will soon be in our mists.
And the movies? There are 15 films taking part in the Festival, of which 7 compete in the different categories with prizes. What’s more, this year will see novelties as interesting as a cycle dedicated to environmental documentaries, which will bring us the much awaited The 11th hour featuring Leonardo Di Caprio, or the Free Tibet cycle, which includes the projection of 3 films about the situation in this region of Asia.
It also appears that this year the festivals organisers are taking care of the organisation of parallel events to the main movie showings and we’ll be able to attend, amongst other events, a series of conferences on digital technology, in which the known producer Enrique Cerezo will take part.
To further satiate our thirst for quality independent cinema (the distinctive stamp that the IIFF wants to give this year’s edition), in June we’ll be able to enjoy an equally interesting offering which is already well set in the island’s cultural agenda: this is the Festival del Mar, the gay and lesbian film festival which promises to bring us 30 films (between shorts and feature length movies) which will doubtlessly maintain the high quality of previous years.
So get ready, because the next few weeks bring with them the promise of the world’s best films… Or were you planning to stay in and wash your hair?
