IBIZABAILA, AN EVENT OF RHYTHM, DANCE AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION

With the motto “Aquí bailamos todos” (we all dance here), the ADIMA (association for the handicapped and elderly) celebrated the event ‘Ibizabaila’ on 30th May and 1st and 2nd June in the Instituto Sa Colomina in Ibiza.  All three days saw strong support for this initiative which mixes fun through dance with the integration of handicapped and elderly people.

Ibizabaila was the first event in Spain to support these sectors of society through the organisation of workshops, competitions and specific performances to promote social integration.

Amongst the invited artists were Ramón Morales, ex-member of the group ‘Johnny Vázquez y su Imperio Azteca’, Esperanza and Rodrogo, teachers of different styles of dance, Ocumaré, and Juan, a Cuban living in Madrid, a great dancer and entertainer.

And on top of all this was the outstanding performance of the local dancers from Passion Dance, Viladance and Eividance.  For José Luis, one of the dancers and organiser of this programme, the celebration of Ibizabaila has “created a very important reference point to understand that handicapped people need immediate incorporation in social life under equal conditions and without any kind of discrimination” and so acclaimed the event as a success.
