IBIZA WITH THE WORLD HERITAGE ALLIANCE OF CULTURAL LANDSCAPES

On 15^th September, in the city of Aranjuez the World Heritage Alliance of Cultural Landscapes was constituted, with the participation of Ibiza city council. Among the founder members, as well as Ibiza city council, Aranjuez and Elche, we find the town of Sintra (Portugal), The Alhambra heritage group and the Generalife and the Medulas represented by the Council for Culture and Tourism of Castilla and León.

The lady Mayor of Ibiza, Lourdes Costa, took part in the Alliance’s constitutional act. This association has as its objectives to promote cooperation between all the different Cultural Landscapes worldwide, as well as between the different places and monuments with landscape and environmental value.

On the other hand, the plan is to constitute a forum of convergence, reflection and debate on the problems, successes and experiences which affect all governing bodies, both national and international related to the conservation and development of the cultural landscapes. What’s more it is intended to promote common strategies and initiatives on local, regional, national and international levels for developing and conservation the landscapes.

Another objective, based on the World Heritage Convention of the UNESCO and the European Convention and Council of Landscapes, will be the promotion of strategies centred on the cooperation between the members of the Alliance oriented towards the rational and sustainable use of programmes which permit the development of Cultural Landscapes, maintaining their authenticity and integrity. It is also intended to ferment, through specific programmes, in which Ibiza-Click will collaborate enthusiastically, investigation, education and academic and professional training of the citizenry on the subject of UNESCO declared World Heritage Cultural Landscapes and public participation in the preservation, publicity and correct use of said landscapes.

Finally, as a last objective, the intent is to favour the promotion of actions to benefit the cultural landscapes on a national and international level, through the communication and diffusion of results achieved and any other media which will assist the development of initiatives in their favour.
