GRASSES, IBIZA AND OTHER PLANTS

St. Peter the Martyr is the carer of grasses. It is believed he protects them and makes them grow. He is the patron Saint of herbalists… and he’s “responsible” for spring allergies. Although the pollen count this year is expected to be half that of last year, its molecules are 27 times more potent than twenty years ago.
Pollen counts are highest at night in the city and first thing in the morning in the country. Sea level is where the count is lowest and if the allergy symptoms persist, you could always drink a beer or two (which contains prolactine, an anti inflammatory ideal for protecting those irritable nasal passages).

In olden times, on the 29th April olive branches would be blessed and then put in the fields and by the vines to protect them from lightening and hail and to ensure abundant harvests. Branches of rosemary, thyme, aniseed and other aromatic plants would also be placed to augment their Earthly power with the force of the sacred blessing. These would also be placed by the doors and windows of every house to guard against witches and evil spirits.

Other branches would be tied to a cane to form a cross and planted in the fields and orchards to keep the free of lightening, hail and other storm damage.
