Tauste, Unsworth and Dunckel have a joint exposition in Can Cires in a pictorial experience called ‘Gabinetes cambiantes’
The idea behind the experience is that the exposition be impregnated with the new ‘surrealisme pitiús’, say the artists, and they intend for the display to change periodically in form and in content; hence the title ‘Gabinetes cambiantes’. And in the two months the event lasts, until the end of October, there’s room for a lot of changes.
The three artists, residents on the island – Spanish, British and German – who are taking part in this “new concept in art”, mix between canvas paintings, collage, projections, panels, labyrinths of doors and even a replica Harold Lloyd hanging from the ceiling, and are well known already. In Tauste’s work, with the same accustomed cinematographic flair and with the title ‘Bienvenidos’ (Welcome), there are huge jellyfish. Unsworth and his usual figurative style stands up for animal rights, painting them in pastel tones and showing, with projections, cages with which he demands their freedom. ‘Hogar, dulce hogar’ (Home, sweet home) is the title. The German Dunckel, for his part, needs space and takes over Can Cires’s ‘home’ – the restaurant in San Mateo – in which he concludes this experiment in ‘surrealisme pitiús’. His are the labyrinths of doors and he refers to Alice in Wonderland to explain himself. His installation is titled ‘The Doors’ and also includes a collection of photographs.
