Hubert Scheibl’s abstraction arrives at the ‘Espacio Micus’.
The ‘Espacio Micus’ has already opened what will be its big exposition for the summer of 2007.
For the occasion they’ve chosen the Austrian artist Hubert Scheibl, a highly prestigious painter on a European level and one of the regulars at the last editions of the Madrid Contemporary Art Fair, ARCO.
He fundamentally works in the abstract although he doesn’t exclude the figurative in certain works for which he reserves the technique of collage.
It’s the first time that Scheibl exhibits on the island of Ibiza and he does it in an incomparable setting, which is the modern and delicate space which Eduard Micus built with his own hands. The exposition, which includes some drawings, can be visited until early September. A great opportunity to get to know the most recent visual production of a creator highly acclaimed by the critics, marked by the tradition of abstract expressionism which so influenced painting in the 80s.An alchemist of colour, of the contrast between blinding lights and distant shadows. An exposition which, according to those in the know, evokes dream-like sensations. A spectacle well worth seeing. The place: Kilometre 3 of the Ibiza – Cala Llonga road.

| Eduard Micus made with his own hands the ideal place to display his ample and vast work, characterised by contrast and, as from one moment, by the technique of ‘coudrages’. A vanguard space for abstraction.
Lacking arguments that show the contrary, we believe we can state that the ‘Espacio Micus’ is the most special place of all those dedicated to art in Ibiza. It was built by Eduard Micus himself (1925-2000), recreating himself in that way in another of his great passions, architecture. A space that the German thought up to exhibit his own vast work, as he was firmly convinced that if the paintings were displayed in the proper place, they would look much better.
Micus sketched, but most of all painted. Contrast was the formal principle of his creation; a style marked by the demand for simplicity in the purification of the elemental and the division of the painting using the line as a metaphorical boundary, the base of coudrages, original contribution of the author of ‘History of Art’, and without doubt, one of his most significant legacies. A style in which form is conceived as content. After his death, his museum-workshop was converted into a contemporary art gallery, with a favouritism towards abstract creation. “I feel obliged as universal heiress to keep it open, to display and share what my father did with all those who love art”, explains Katja, director of the ‘Espacio Micus’.
